Payout Models

Payout Model 1:

Prompt API hosts the API

If you only want to work on your code and leave the headaches (hosting, scalability, security and monitoring) to us this option applies to you.

In this model, Prompt API gets 60% and you get %40 of the generated revenue after deducting the payment processing fees.

Hosted on Google Cloud Platform

Dockerized Environment

Hosted API
Payout Model 2:

The Developer hosts the API

We act as a proxy if you already host your API on a prestigious service provider. In this model, there are 2 revenue tiers depending on your uptime.

If you provide uptime:
Above 99.98%: Prompt API gets 17%, and you get 83%;
Between 99.97% - 99,96%: Prompt API gets 20%, and you get 80%;
Below 99.96%: API is hosted by Prompt API under payout model 1 described above.

Provider Hosted API

Manage Your API with an API

One API to rule them all. One API to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.

//Get Revenue of an API > $ curl --location --request GET 'https://provider-api.promptapi.com/provider/revenue/API_NAME'
//Get Stats of an API $ curl --location --request GET 'https://provider-api.promptapi.com/provider/stats/API_NAME'

Not comfortable diving that deep? No worries, we also have a wonderful API provider interface!

API Provider FAQ

Anyone who can code and deploy an API can be a provider regardless of the legal status of the entity. So you can be a provider as a person or as a company. API applications will be reviewed and be only accepted if they meet the requirements

You can submit your application from this page. After submitting your application we’ll set up a video call to get to know your project better and decide on pricing and payout options. After the call we’ll review your API technically and list on our marketplace if everything’s ok.

Prompt API is an open API marketplace but a carefully curated one. We accept all kinds of APIs to be listed on our platform. Currently there are machine learning APIs, financial data API, URL shorteners, etc. We try to handpick the best API available for a single purpose and market and eliminate duplicate projects. We also accept APIs similar to the ones already listed if several features are different and fundamentally better or marketed to different target segments.

Subscription fees are totally up to you. The provider decides on pricing; however, Prompt API might suggest changes to increase sales and adjust the prices according to market conditions.

  • The description is advised (but not forced) to be under 250 words for better readability.
  • The description should briefly explain how the API works. You may include the operating logic, queried libraries or algorithms used.
  • The description should mention any official sources or certifications regarding the data in the responses.
  • A sample request and response should be provided in text or image format
  • Use cases should be listed to guide the subscribers on where they can employ your API to provide better service.

This depends on how you position your API in the market. If you provide a solution to a critical need and are the only developer to provide that solution we bet the sales will skyrocket :) Since Prompt API is a free API marketplace the sales are predominantly determined by market demand and pricing.

At the end of each month collected subscription payments are calculated and payout is given to the provider according to the chosen payout model.

Either Prompt API or the provider hosts the API. This depends on the chosen payout model by the provider. You can either host your API on secure and scalable Prompt API servers on the cloud (which we advise to enhance customer experience) or manage your own hosting.

Payout is handled on a monthly basis. At the end of each month collected subscription payments are calculated and payout is given to the provider according to the chosen payout model. If the provider is a company, an invoice must be created for Prompt API for the amount distributed to the provider. If the provider is a person (s)he does not need to provide an invoice and the payments are sent directly to the given bank account.

Taxes are handled according to the country in which the provider resides.

Sure. You can submit your application on our provider page. If accepted you can list your API and start earning money right away. The payout will be handled without an invoice and the money will be transferred directly to your bank account.

If you are a company, yes. If you are an individual, no.

Absolutely not. All intellectual property regarding your API is protected by our provider agreement and none is transferred to Prompt API. We also provide non exclusivity for the providers so they can monetize their work in whichever environment they like.

Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, Digital Ocean, Scaleway, and Hetzner Cloud. Moreover, you should get a load balancer service from the cloud service provider. Thanks to this, when it is needed, you can set multiple API nodes and connect them via a single endpoint.

We don’t need to see the code inside your container. You can encrypt it. You should maintain main and development branchs for your code base. So that, it will much easier to release a new version. You can use docker hub for container registry. However, if you have a private container registry, you should share an authenticated user for this registry.

Regardless of who will host the API, we’ll test and verify your new releases. Before any changes to the live project you should be able to share a development or test environment that includes the new endpoint addresses and updated documentation for QA purposes. Adding the version information on your API address will make everything easier for us to check and verify. For example if your live API address is api.developer.com/v10/ you can submit your updated address as test.api.developer.com/v21/ for the new release.

While you are hosting your own API, you might want us to start hosting it for any reason (either for convenience or to provide a better customer experience through Prompt API scalable hosting solutions) If this happens, you need to migrate to a container environment. First step would be to create a Dockerfile which is a list of commands to auto-install your application. You should also share the operating system, programming language, database (if present) and other environment information with us. We are always here to help if you have difficulties in this process.

We are continuously generating new content for API developers. You can always check our blog for articles on API development, hosting and other technical topics. You should also subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest news about our webinars and technology trends.

We vigilantly monitor the performance and uptime information for all the APIs listed on our platform regardless of the hosting option. Giving a fast response is as important as maintaining 100% uptime. We can scale in seconds to meet the increasing demand thanks to our cloud based container architecture. We expect the same level of service if you decide to host your own API. Thus, hosting your API as a single node on a small virtual server will not meet our requirements for service.

Prompt API will be the first point of contact for customer service. We might also need to contact you for further questions regarding the technical issues on your side. Due to GDPR requirements, we cannot share customer information with you so we’ll act as an intermediary while providing support.

I've published my first API on Prompt API Marketplace. Now I have users all over the world, thanks to Prompt API.
